About Stroke

Welcome to the Lambeth and Southwark stroke services website.

Stroke is the third most common cause of death in South London and the most common cause of disability locally. There are around 720 first time strokes in the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark each year with another 50 people each year having a recurrent stroke.

An increasing population live alone, or with family, with varying levels of disability within the boroughs as a result of having a stroke.

The Modernisation Initiative - Stroke Programme exists to radically improve the services delivered to people who have suffered a stroke and their carers in Lambeth and Southwark, as well as to prevent first time strokes.

We are working together with local health and social care organisations, people with stroke and voluntary organisations
